DAY 5: PACHMARHI – BHIMBETKA (173 kms / 4 hrs) – BHOPAL
- After breakfast at hotel and check out from hotel proceed to Bhopal .
- On the way visit Bhimbetka. It is around 173 km from Pachmarhi. Surrounded by the northern fringe of the Vindhya mountain range, Bhimbetka is also known as Bhima’s Lounge (Bhima was the second of the five Pandava princes in the Hindu epic Mahabharata). A prehistoric site, its giant rock formation must have provided ample shelter to the ancient tribes that dwelt here. Recently, about 760 rock shelters of the Neolithic age (circa 8,000 B.C.) were discovered here. These shelters are decorated with picture writings, depicting the life and times of prehistoric cave dwellers. Some of the drawings in white are reminiscent of the cave paintings in Pachmarhi, making the Bhimbetka group an archaeological treasure trove, an invaluable chronicle in the history of man.

DAY 6: BHOPAL – SANCHI (48 kms / 1 hrs drive) – UDAYAGIRI (15 kms)
- After breakfast, we will hit the road in the morning heading towards Sanchi. On the way to Sanchi, you will pass through the town of Dewanganj, Salamatpur and other small villages.
- Sanchi is 48 kms north east of Bhopal. It is unique for having the most perfect and well-preserved Buddhist stupas. The remains of Buddhist saints Sariputra and Mahamouglayan are also preserved here. The holy relics are displayed once a year, particularly, on the last Sunday of November during the annual Chethiyagiri Vihar festival.
- After Sanchi, you will visit Udaygiri caves, about 15 kms from Sanchi, close to the town of Vidisha. Udaygiri caves are rock-cut cave shrines, dating from 320-600 A.D.
- Return to Bhopal in the evening.

DAY 7: BHOPAL – UJJAIN (188 kms / 4 hrs drive)

DAY 10: DHAR – MAHESHWAR (71 KM – 1.30 hrs drive)

Bhopal is the capital of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The city was the capital of the former Bhopal State. Bhopal is known as the City of Lakes for its various natural as well as artificial lakes and is also one of the greenest cities in India.
Pachmarhi is a hill station in Madhya Pradesh state of central India. It has been the location of a cantonment (Pachmarhi Cantonment) since British Raj. It is widely known as Satpura ki Rani (“Queen of Satpura”), situated at a height of 1067 m in a valley of the Satpura Range in Hoshangabad district. Dhupgarh, the highest point in Madhya Pradesh and the Satpura range, is located here. It is a part of Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve.
The Bhimbetka rock shelters are an archaeological site of the Paleolithic, exhibiting the earliest traces of human life on the Indian Subcontinent, and thus the beginning of the Indian Stone Age. It is located in the Raisen District in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, near Obedullaganj town and inside the Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary. At least some of the shelters were inhabited by Homo erectus over 100,000 years ago. Some of the Stone Age rock paintings found among the Bhimbetka rock shelters are some 30,000 years old. The caves also deliver early evidence of dance. They were declared a World Heritage Site in 2003. The name Bhimbetka is associated with Bhima, a hero-deity of the epic Mahabharata. The word Bhimbetka is said to derive from Bhimbaithka, meaning “sitting place of Bhima”.
Sanchi also written Sanci, is a Buddhist complex, famous for its Great Stupa, on a hilltop at Sanchi Town in Raisen District of the State of Madhya Pradesh,India. The Great Stupa at Sanchi is one of the oldest stone structure in India and was originally commissioned by the emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE. Its nucleus was a simple hemispherical brick structure built over the relics of the Buddha. It was crowned by the chatra, a parasol-like structure symbolising high rank, which was intended to honour and shelter the relics. The original construction work of this stupa was overseen by Ashoka, whose wife Devi was the daughter of a merchant of nearby Vidisha. The Sanchi Stupa built during Mauryan period was made of bricks. Sanchi is the center of a region with a number of stupas including Satdhara, Morel Khurd, Andher, Mawas, Sonari etc. all within a few miles of Sanchi.
Ujjain is the largest city in Ujjain district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. An ancient city situated on the eastern bank of the Kshipra River, Ujjain was the most prominent city on the Malwa plateau of central India for much of its history. It emerged as the political centre of central India around 600 BCE. It was the capital of the ancient Avanti kingdom, one of the sixteen mahajanapadas. It remained an important political, commercial and cultural centre of central India until the early 19th century, when the British administrators decided to develop Indore as an alternative to it. Ujjain continues to be an important place of pilgrimage for Shaivites, Vaishnavites and followers of Shakta.
Mandu or Mandavgad is an uninhabited ancient city in the present-day Mandav area of the Dhar district. It is located in the Malwa region of western Madhya Pradesh, India, at 35 km from the Dhar city. Mandu is an ancient fort city in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It’s surrounded by stone walls dotted with darwazas (gateways). It’s also known for its Afghan architectural heritage. Landmark buildings include Hoshang Shah’s Tomb, a domed marble mausoleum, and the vast Jami Masjid mosque, with courtyards framed by colonnades. The imposing, centuries-old Jahaz Mahal palace stands between 2 lakes.
Omkareshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to God Shiva. It is one of the 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. It is on an island called Mandhata or Shivapuri in the Narmada river; the shape of the island is said to be like the Hindu ॐ symbol. There are two main temples of Lord Shiva here, one to Omkareshwar (whose name means “Lord of Omkara or the Lord of the Om Sound”) located in the island and one to Amareshwar (whose name means “Immortal lord” or “lord of the Immortals or Devas”) located on the southbank of Narmada River on the mainland. As per the sloka on dwadash jyotirlinga, Mamleshwar the other name of Amareshwar is the jyotirling, nonetheless, many consider both Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar equally sacred and representative of jyotirling at this sacred place.
Indore is known as the city of the Holkars. The city was built by a Holkar Rani Ahilyabai, one of the famous queens of India. Famous historical monuments and religious centers – Rajwada, Kanch Mandir and Bada Ganapati. The Rajwada or the Old Palace is located in the old city; the building is a blend of French, Mughal and Maratha architecture. This 200 year old palace belonged to the Holkar dynasty. Bada Ganapati, better known for its size than antiquity, this temple houses perhaps the largest Ganesh idol in the world measuring 25 feet from crown to foot. It was built in 1875.
